Workshops

2022-2023 workshops are out! Have a look to what’s in store.

The mandate of the AQM is to develop continuing education programs for emerging and professional artists and cultural workers interested in or practicing the puppetry arts.

This service, which has been offered for many years, has allowed AQM members access to crucial and unforgettable training experiences. Thanks to our support from Intervention-Compétences program, Quebec puppeteers have access to workshops and masterclasses provided by teachers from Canada, France, Germany, England and elsewhere. These courses cover a wide range of subjects ranging from puppet making to video production, music, object theatre, shadow theatre and manipulation.

We invite you to take a look at our Past Workshops section to consult the list of courses that have been offered since 2005.

Eligibility

Workshops are open to workers, freelancers and unemployed people with experience in the sector.  Full-time workers are eligible as long as they are residents of Quebec. Participants must have a career in the artistic field related to the workshop.

Students must have self-employment status. Training activities for volunteers cannot be funded by Emploi-Québec.

People who do not reside in Quebec or who are not entitled to work in Quebec have the right to take part in training courses, but must pay the full rate. However, they should not take up available spots at the expense of participants prioritized by the training program.

Registration form

The cost of training differs from one workshop to another. The cost and registration fees must be paid in full before the start of the workshop in order to reserve your spot. Training activities funded by Emploi-Québec are offered at very affordable costs, often one-quarter of the actual cost. Your commitment to attending the workshop is therefore very important. A registration fee of twenty-five (25) dollars is included in the course fee.

Reimbursement Policy / Cancellation of Training Enrolment

If a participant wishes to cancel their registration, they must do so within five (5) working days before the start of the training in order to receive a refund. After this deadline, no reimbursement can be granted in order to guarantee the quality of the workshop. Similarly, no reimbursement is granted for periods during which a participant was unable to be present. The registration fee of twenty-five (25) dollars is non-refundable.

Specificities of the Multiregional and Montreal components

Multiregional component

Participants in training programs financed by Emploi-Québec’s multiregional component may be reimbursed for travel and accommodation expenses. No travel expenses will be reimbursed for a participant whose normal commute from home or work to the training location is less than 50 km. Places are limited for each course, please contact the person in charge of continuing education at communications@aqm.ca.

Participants must reside in Quebec.

Montreal Component

The Montreal component of the training program, financed by Emploi-Québec, does not offer reimbursement of travel or accommodation expenses.

The training offer is intended in particular for residents of the Island of Montreal and for people working for a company located in Montreal.

Participants who do not reside or work on the territory will be admitted only if there is room and if their participation does not prevent a Montreal resident or worker from attending.

Covid-19

In the event of a training cancellation due to Covid-19, AQM will provide a full refund to registered participants.

If you develop symptoms, are diagnosed with Covid-19, or are in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with Covid-19, before or during your participation in a training session, you must inform the AQM. Unfortunately, your participation will be cancelled and the cost of the training will be refunded. The twenty-five (25) dollars registration fee is non-refundable.

More details will be communicated to the participants according to each training and the government directives in force so that the public health instructions are respected.

Workshop cancellation

The AQM, according to its agreement with Emploi-Québec, must cancel a workshop if the minimum number of participants is not reached. In such a case, the training could be postponed to a later date depending on the availability of the teacher, and participants will be reimbursed the registration fees already paid to the AQM.

Diagnosis of the needs for continuing education in the theatre community

As part of an extensive study of the continuing education needs that the Conseil québécois du théâtre (CQT) undertook for all theatre artists and cultural workers, a consultation of professionals working in the field was conducted from December 2012 to November 2014. The AQM collaborated on this study for the puppeteers section, and its report was published under the title “Besoins de formation continue du groupe professionnel Marionnettistes”.
